Who am I?
I’m a business operator, managing director, and writer focused on one thing: helping people make better business decisions in a world shaped by uncertainty, behaviour, and increasingly, artificial intelligence.
Better decisions come from understanding behaviour, signals, environment, and consequences.
My Background
My career spans multiple industries, including land and building surveying, facilities management, logistics, and service delivery. Across these roles, I’ve led teams, managed operations, and worked directly with customers — building a practical understanding of how businesses actually function day-to-day.
This isn’t theory. It’s operational reality.
—Experience in Search & AI Systems
Earlier in my career, I worked as a Search Engine Evaluator (via Lionbridge, supporting Google), where I assessed search result relevance, user intent, and content quality using structured evaluation frameworks.
In practical terms, this meant analysing:
- Whether search results truly matched user intent
- The quality, trustworthiness, and usefulness of content
- How different result sets performed against each other
- The signals that separate helpful content from noise
Today, that experience directly informs my work on AI search behaviour, content strategy, and decision-making.
Alongside my business career, whilst working for a charity organisation, I have delivered over 1000’s of structured presentations in English, Finnish, and Chinese to audiences ranging from small groups to more than 600 people. I have also spent decades mentoring and developing others, with a focus on improving how people think, communicate, and make decisions under real-world conditions.
Across all of these domains, a consistent theme emerges: clarity beats complexity. Whether in operations, search systems, or leadership, better outcomes come from understanding how decisions are actually made—not how they are supposed to be made in theory.
This site is a collection of practical insights drawn from that perspective. I explore how AI is changing search and decision-making, how people interpret information under uncertainty, and how businesses can respond with clearer thinking and better strategy.
No jargon. No theory for its own sake. Just ideas that hold up in the real world.
What I Write About
On KrisLai.com, I focus on:
- AI and how it is changing search and decision-making
- Business strategy in fast-moving environments
- Behavioural economics and real-world decision patterns
- Leadership, judgement, and operational thinking
Everything is written from a practical, operator’s perspective — not theory, not trends, but what actually works in real business situations.
—Why This Matters
We are moving from a world of information overload to one of decision overload.
Search engines, AI systems, and algorithms now shape what we see, what we trust, and ultimately, what decisions we make.
Understanding how those systems work — and how humans behave within them — is no longer optional. It’s a core business skill.
